THETA LAMBDA OMEGA chapter

Welcome to the official website of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® Theta Lambda Omega Chapter, located in Pontiac, Michigan. I’m Carol D. Ellis and honored to serve as the 19th Chapter President. It is my extreme pleasure to greet you on behalf of the members of this illustrious chapter.

Our beloved Sorority began on the campus of Howard University in 1908, becoming the first African American Greek-letter organization, founded by college trained women. Fifty-eight years later, on November 19, 1966, Theta Lambda Omega Chapter was chartered, with the assistance of Eta Iota Omega Chapter of Inkster, Michigan, becoming the first sorority in the Divine 9 to establish a graduate chapter in the City of Pontiac. Phrases such as “the first to organize” or “the first to initiate a cause” are synonymous with Alpha Kappa Alpha. We are proud of our rich heritage and empowered by our commitment to be of service to the Pontiac community for over 55 years.

We’re thankful for our 17 charter members’ foresight and vision. Through the years, Theta Lambda Omega has initiated and maintained signature programs and activities contributing to the advancement of the Pontiac Community. The longest running activity is the Debutante Scholarship Cotillion, which was introduced in 1973. To date over $2,000,000 has been awarded in scholarships to over 1000 Cotillion participants. The chapter will host its 51st Debutante Scholarship Cotillion on May 13, 2023!

Under the leadership of International President Danette Anthony Reed, we are proud to support the 2022-2026 International Program Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood. Programs are the heart of Alpha Kappa Alpha. We actively seek opportunities to collaborate with partners to offer programs of service that positively impact the community.

Please be sure to visit our events calendar frequently and connect with us on Facebook and Instagram to keep apprised of our community initiatives and activities.
Thank you for visiting our website and for continuing to support our efforts as we serve the Pontiac Community.
If you are a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® and are seeking to join a chapter, we invite you to attend a chapter meeting on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. Please send us a message for meeting details.
